Notes from Portal Cluster meeting

13 Dec, 2004
Notes from Chris Awre on the JISC Portal projects and u-Portal Cluster meeting held at the JISC/CETIS conference held in Oxford in 2004

A lively discussion took place around the role of uPortal and what it can do. This was greatly assisted by the presence of Jim Farmer and Justin Tilton from instructional media + magic in the US, who have been active involved in the project management and development of uPortal. Specific topics included the role of JSR 168 and WSRP standards, aggregated layouts, authentication, and personalisation (including whether users actually want the ability to do this). The connection between portals such as uPortal and the e-Learning Framework was also covered with the help of Wilbert Kraan, although the exact nature of how the portal would link to the learner-specific and common services was uncertain.
