Mobile Blogs, Personal Reflections and Learning Environments

This article is published in the July 2005 issue of Ariadne. The first section provides a useful overview of the blogging phenomenon with lots of useful references on the current use of blogs in education. Paul then describes how the RAMBLE (Remote Authoring of Mobile Blogs for Learning Environments)project piloted the use of PDAs for blogging with Chemistry and Medical Sciences students at the University of Oxford. The chemistry students were asked to use the mobile devices to give feedback on lecture courses, tutorials and practicals while the medical sciences students were asked to record their learning experiences while on clinical rotation. Paul notes that the student reflections were unexpectedly rich, and students expressed themselves very freely.

The RAMBLE project also focused on the technical issues of getting blogs from PDAs to VLEs, using syndicated newsfeeds to integrate the blogs into the Bodington VLE.
