LAMS Practitioner Trial Final Report LAMS Practitioner Trial Final Report
JISC funded a practitioner trial of the LAMS (Learning Activity Management System) with 40 practitioners from HE, FE and ACL (Adult and Community Learning) between July 2004 and March 2005. The evaluation focused on the question ‘Does the use of a learning design tool such as LAMS support effective practice in designing for learning?’ Dr Liz Masterman and Dr Stuart Lee the report authors conclude that (p 41): ‘We can position LAMS as a tool which practitioners can profitably add to the repertoire already at their disposal – promoting motivation and participation in some circumstances and with some groups of learners.’ This link opens a pdf version of the report

Using Learning Design: It’s all in the tools Using Learning Design: It’s all in the tools
It is five years since IMS released its Learning Design Specification and this week JISC CETIS held a meeting in Manchester this week to reflect on the last five years and to look at the tools currently under development which could bring the concept of learning design to a wider audience.
A Review of Learning Design A Review of Learning Design
A Review of Learning Design:Concept, Specifications and Tools (May 2004) by Sandy Britain. This review introduces the concept of learning design and why it offers 'new possibilities for increasing the quality and variety of teaching and learning'. There is also an evaluation of the various learning design tools available as of May 2004. Some of these tools have been substantially developed since this report was written. This link will download the reprt from the JISC web site.
