Bodington III PLE

11 Jan, 2006
Development of Bodington into a personal learning environment.
A summary of the Bodington III PLE project funded by the distributed e-learning strand. This description of the Bodington III PLE tools takes the form of a questionnaire.

Describe the tool you are building

The framework for the next version of Bodington, working title Bodington III, is to be developed in this project together with test/demonstration/exemplar tools. The framework will be suitable, given different configurations, to act as a framework for any of PLEs, PLE servers, and VLEs. Bodington III is both a VLE and a PLE framework that may be populated with servlets and Java Server Pages to provide online and offline e-learning facilities.

What problem do you see the development of this tool helping to address? (ie the rationale for your project)

This web-based software product will provide learners with personal and group space for organising evidence of skills and knowledge acquisition, will provide a venue for support activities involving tutors, mentors and peers and will support learners working in groups on projects.

Who do you see the being the primary user(s) of this tool?

Universities and Colleges that have deployed Bodington 2. Universities and Colleges that don't intend to adopt Bodington but are reviewing e-learning provision and are interested in acquiring tools that can be moved between alternate platforms.

How do you see your tool being used?

For the implementation of distance learning systems that wish to use facilities that improve on those currently available in VLE implementations.

To use your tool, what infrastructure etc (if any) will be needed? (ie - could it be used stand-alone? Would it need a VLE/other system to be in place?)

This will be a stand alone product
